This monument of Malla era was one of the most beautiful temples in Durbar Square. Standing on top of 7 base stairs, you can't help but humbly admiring its greatness. Unfortunately, it was destroyed during devastating Gorkha earthquake in 2015.

The majestic three-storeyed temple of Maju Dega has a nine-step brick base which gives it an impressive height that almost dominates the Kathmandu Durbar Square skyline. After the temple of Taleju and Degu Taleju, Maju Dega is the tallest and the largest temple in the Durbar Square area. This temple was built in 1692 by Queen Mother Riddhi Laxmi (mother of infant King Bhupatendra Malla) and hence its name Maju Dega or Temple of Queen Mother.

Temple went down, nth but only stairs left, hope it will be reconstructed soon

Used be a great structure and important temple for Hindus. Now under reconstruction due to collapse in 2015 earthquake.

was wonder temple before it actually fall on top of me and other survivors that day...but nice memories in top that place
