This whitewashed european style building in Kathmandu Durbar Square is known as Gaddi Baihak. Gaddi Baithak is a neoclassical palace u0026 It was built by then prime minister Chandra Shumsher JBR in 1908 AD, and it was used for coronations and to welcome heads of states from other countries. Today Gaddi Baithak is used only for special occasions.

The Gaddi Baithak Basantupur is a neoclassical building from which Nepal’s kings once ruled and settled the affairs of the country. Hence its name, which means Royal Seat. It also was the place where important foreign guests like ambassadors were welcomed by the king.

Gaddi Baithak is a neoclassical palace in Kathmandu Durbar Square. It was built by Chandra Shumsher Jang Bahadur Rana in 1908, and it was used for to coronations and to welcome head of states from other countries.
This building now show cases as a museum of the past civilization and also below floors displays a wide varieties of antiques along with history of Nepal both political and social.

One of the historically/politically important establishment of the the 19th century.
Interesting to see the history of Nepal portrayed in images and stories throughout the years in the buildings basement.

The building was built then by Rana Prime Minister being inspired from British Building.
