2018: The temple is currently under renovation after its demolition by the 2015 earthquake. The temple is by the Bagmati river. The temple is one of the 4 temples of Binayak. It is around this area that Manjushree cut one hill into two allowing the water of Bagmati to flow from the Kathmandu valley (once a lake)
2022: The temple has already been rebuilt.

The temple is fully restored. Beautiful Binayak inmidst Rana era style building. Worth a visit also for non-believers combining with a visit to Chobar Hill and maybe Kirtipur.

Jal Binayak Temple is a Hindu temple and one of the most important shrines of Lord Ganesh located at Chobar in the Kathmandu valley. The stone image of Ganesh located in the area is believed to have emerged out of water. So the idol was named Jal Binayak meaning the Ganesh which evolved out of water and the whole area got renowned with the same name.

A hindu temple of Lord Ganesh and Bagmati river flows from its side. You can see a complete view of hill cut by Manjushree to drain out water from Kathmandu.

This place is very special to us.

The temple is situated just by the chovar gorge. The manjushree hill is now a cheap park which was once an amazing go to place for hanging out.

Recommended place to visit and take blessing from lord Jal Binayak. It is one of the amongst four Binayak of Kathmandu valley. It lie on south of Chovar gorge which is also point of attraction.Temple is about 50-60m from Balkhu Dakshinkali road. This place would be more more beautiful if Bagmati was unpolluted.Zero point of fast track is opposite site of River Bagmati.
