A beautiful place full of the cultural and national heritage that makes Malaysia such a richly diverse and beautiful place. Excellent for photos in front of colonial style architecture with local Malay and religious influence. Worth walking around for a good 30 minutes, or longer. Best time to go is late afternoon.

Very beautiful place, specially sun set view around 6pm. So peaceful and nice to take photos. It’s a must visit place if you come to Kuala Lumpur. Next to it is a very big grass field for you to seat down and watch the sun set. Behind is a dancing fountain (7-10pm).

A beautiful spot to chill and relax in the opened field here where you can take a ton of nice photos in the surroundings. All the historical and iconic buildings can see here from far.....best-times to visit definitely evening from 6pm onwards, you can enjoy both day and night views....very different experience.....

Merdeka Square is in the heart of the Kuala Lumpur city symbolizing the independence of the country with a long-standing flag. The park area is huge and it is behind the beautiful Sultan Abdul Samad Building. If you are staying at Bukit Bintang area it is then easier for you to walk up to the place or board LRT line to Masjid Jamek from anywhere.

The ground is lush green and well maintained, remains under supervision all the times. A lot of local events are also held around the area especially during Ramzan or other festivals.

I visited during Ramazan of May 2019 where they offer prayers and break evening fast. The place is happening and one can have a good time there.

It is good for sightseeing and photography. You should visit after 4 pm when it is a bit colder.

Formerly, Selangor Club, this has a club where you can dine or have evening snacks and drinks in artistically looking buildings from the British era. You will also spot St. Mary's Anglican Cathedral church nearby.

Next to Dataran Merdeka, you have Kuala Lumpur city gallery which tells the story of Kuala Lumpur through miniature and a city model show.

While you are there, you would also want to explore Sultan Abdul Samad building, national textile museum, Central market, KL art Gallery for some good photo shots.

There is not much of activities you can do around except sightseeing.

The place is touristy and transport availability is good in the area. You will find convenience stores and cafes. However, I could not find restaurants.

It is free. No sightseeing charges.

A much visited place in the heart of Kuala Lumpur surrounded by historic colonial buildings. The flag of Malaysia flies on the almost 100 m high flagpole. Across the street you can see the imposing Sultan Abdul Samad building. In the distance are the Kuala Lumpur Tower and Petronas Twin Towers

I like the architecture of old buildings around Merdeka Square. Although the buildings are old, they are still very well maintained. This place is quite crowded with many people both day and night during weekend.

The Independence square is a large rectangular ground spanning the frontage of the Abdul Samad Building. The square is a great public space. The largest flag pole of Malaysia, the Royal Selangor Club, The St Mary’s Anglican Cathedral and the Sultan Abdul Samad Building encase the ground on all four sides. An open fountain is also installed at one end of the ground.

The colonial impression of the place is fittingly demarcated by the surrounding structures, except for the newly rising skyscrapers in the faraway backdrop. The ground forms a emanating space for the string of open areas of the city of Kuala Lumpur and the spotlight of British Architecture in the Older Areas of Kuala Lumpur.
